The cataractous lens is in a bag which is a thin membrane which is opened and the cataract is broken in small pieces using phacoemulsification i.e ultrasound at a very high speed roughly 40,000 times per second which is sucked out and the foldable IOL is placed in the bag which unfolds inside the bag and regains its original size.
Most of the patients get back good vision after cataract surgery. Even after a perfect surgery no one can give assurance for a perfect vision as the vision regained depends on the condition of the retina, cornea and the optic nerve.
